A Traditional Tartan Christmas Table with Festive Twists

A Traditional Tartan Christmas Table with Festive Twists

I can't believe that Christmas is just a few days away! We'll be hosting friends and family for the next week, and I'm beyond excited to do so in our new home. I'll be the first to admit that I've been decorating the house non-stop since Thanksgiving. It's an entirely new and different space, so there was a lot of trial and some error (ha!) that went into decking these new halls. We have a big Christmas dinner with my family from Ohio every year at this time, so I started working on the tablescape early. I wanted the table to feel like the decor in my home: festive and fun with pops of color and a mix of traditional and vintage touches.

For place cards, I had the talented Meg Grant calligraph the family names and then attached them to tiny vintage metallic ornaments for each person to keep. I love a traditional monogram on the tartan napkins, and the gold thread really pops while dressing up a more casual print.

I found these vintage Christmas tree candelabras at Thompson & Hanson in Houston, which I'll look forward to using every year at Christmas. For the florals, my interior decorator, Lindsey Herod, sent me an inspiration photo that I ran with. I loved her idea to bring bright red into the mix, which I might have initially not gravitated towards.

The centerpiece vessel is a vintage champagne bucket that I inserted floral foam into to create a cascading, organic floral arrangement to flow with the the rest of the garland and tabletop accessories.

Single poinsettia stems and holly berries intertwined with the garland made for the perfect finishing touches and a few more pops of red to complete the look.

Merry Christmas to your and yours! Love, LZ
